STORMY WEATHER

There will be ebbs and flows in snowfall intensity and coverage this weekend, and it will not snow heavily over one given area the whole time. However, day storm totals by Monday morning will likely be moderate to heavy throughout higher elevations, favoring the northern and central areas of western Colorado. Drivers are urged to Know Before You Go: check road conditions and stay on top of the latest forecast information as the winter weather evolves. 

ROAD CLOSED

If you’re heading to Cañon City tomorrow, December 2nd, be aware that Main Street from 1st – 14th will be closed for the town’s Christmas Parade from 3pm – 9pm. Businesses will remain open, however, the street will be closed to traffic and parking until the conclusion of the parade.

This year on December 9, the Valley Strong team invites you and your loved ones to celebrate the start of a cozy, winter season in a variety of events all day for the entire family. The Christmas Parade, featuring a variety of local entries, will begin at 4:30pm and will travel down Main Street, beginning at the school and ending at the Bluff. The more the merrier!  Go to ValleyStrong.us to register your family or group for an entry! After the parade we’ll gather at Jess Price Park for the annual Tree Lighting at dusk, followed by a reading of “A Christmas Carol” at the Historic Jones Theater.

CCSO

Yesterday there were multiple emergency vehicles leaving town on CO 96. Deputies were en route to access a medical patient whose home was inaccessible due to heavy snow. County Road and Bridge sent a road grader, and a helicopter was on the scene yet was unable to land near the home. SAR sent additional ATVs as well.

Respiratory illness is on the upswing in Custer County. To avoid future contagion, stay home. If you are sick, or are immuno-compromised consider using a mask.

Custer County Elementary invites you to this year’s Festival of Trees Auction. Vote on your favorite tree, purchase items, and make an auction bid. Both real and artificial trees will be decorated with student-made ornaments. Next Thursday, December 7th from  4:30 PM – 6:00 PM  and Friday, December 8th @ 1:00 PM – 6:00PM at Custer County School Multi-Purpose Room, 709 Main Street. All funds raised will go toward the purchase of Elementary learning and classroom materials.
