Public Health has issued a warning for WEST NILE VIRUS IN CUSTER COUNTY
The Vector is an infected mosquito it is not transferred human to human. Protective measures to take include:
– Wearing long sleeves/pants during evening/early morning
– Use DEET containing mosquito spray on all exposed skin surfaces
– Pour 1 tablespoon of cooking oil onto standing water, this includes troughs and ponds.
1 in 5 patients can develop serious illness (encephalopathy): High fever, headache, neck stiffness, coma, stupor, tremors, convulsions, vision loss, numbness, and/or paralysis.

KLZR’s annual High Peaks Music Fest is this Saturday. You can get tickets from www.klzr.org and at the gate. If big rain occurs there is a rain venue at All Aboard Westcliffe at 110 Rosita Avenue. This is a fundraiser that supports all of the free music concerts KLZR produces during the summer.

In School news: Custer County High School has a program that teaches students to design and use a state of the art plasma cutter. The second semester will include how to run a small business utilizing this skill with real life experience. This program is funded by a grant obtained by the school.
Healthy meals for all provides free breakfast and lunch meals to all K through 12 grades this school year. Stop by the main office at the school to fill out an application.
