Drought- 

According to the National Integrated Drought Information System, abundant precipitation for both Fremont and Custer counties from late April through mid May has brought improved drought conditions. across south central and southern Colorado. Abnormally dry conditions for both Fremont and Custer counties, which puts us out of those D1 and D2 categories.

Travelers will encounter a second work zone in the town of Silver Cliff tomorrow, May 24th, as crews complete seeding in the area. Weather permitting this will only take one day. There will be alternating single lane closures and flagging personnel to direct traffic flow at both work zones. Please allow for 15-minute delays.

In the US alone, 60,000 children experience  accidental poisoning  by medication each year and 45-55% of those poisonings involve child-resistant packaging. Two out of 3  teens who misuse prescription drugs  get them from family and friends, including their home’s medicine cabinets. pilfering is the #1 source for teen Rx drug abuse.

Custer County Public Health is offering FREE Safe Drug locking pill bottles. These free bottles are available at the Public Health office, the Palace Pharmacy in Cañon City, and the Sheriff Office lobby.

 

EMS Week is May 21st – 27th

Big THANKS to Custer County EMS for the time, energy, and compassion they bring to the job. 

KLZR’s outdoor events team is seeking help to set up and break down the shade canopies for the 2nd Street Block Party this Saturday, as well as for our Summer in the Park events. If you are able to carry 30 pounds, then you are qualified! Many hands make light work! Email  tc.smythe@klzr.org  by Friday if you can pitch in. With enough hands, this activity should take one hour on Saturday morning and ½ hour at the end of the event. Thank you.

Custer County Economic Development Corporation

CCEDC is holding a 3rd workshop that will inform you about the group’s current projects and ask you to join them for future planning. This is NOT a repeat. They are building upon what they have done so far.
