DROUGHT MONITOR

Abnormal dryness and moderate drought lessened in coverage in the San Luis Valley and a bit in the Sangres. East of the Rockies, drought and abnormally dry conditions mostly stayed the same or worsened as west of the Divide got slammed with moisture.

Strong and gusty winds combined with low relative humidity brings widespread critical to extreme fire weather conditions.

Please do not burn anything at this time.

Be sure that you and your family are signed up for the Everbridge emergency alert system to keep residents informed. You can download it from the Google Play store or the App Store.

Reminder: With the high winds there is always a chance for power lines to be knocked down and, thus, power outages. If you see downed power lines, please assume they are live. Back away and call 911.

ROADS & HIGHWAYS

CDOT

There aren’t any local construction or obstructions for today, but the wind makes for some difficult travel, especially for high profile vehicles.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO – Please try to gather information about weather forecasts and anticipated travel impacts and current road conditions prior to hitting the road.

RADON – CDPHE urges Colorado residents to have their homes tested for cancer-causing radon gas. In Colorado, nearly half of homes have high radon levels, and more than 500 lung cancer deaths in the state each year are attributed to radon. The best way to protect against radon is to perform a simple, low-cost test of your home. Low-cost kits can be ordered from  SOSRadon.org .
