FIRE REPORT

There are no fire restrictions in our area currently, but there are extreme fire danger conditions due to exceptionally strong winds and low humidity values near 10%. Avoid anything that could cause a spark and wildfire.

Conditions can vary widely and can change quickly in the Rocky Mountain Region. For the most current information please check conditions on the forest where you will be traveling.

CDOT

There aren’t any local construction or obstructions for today…

…But if you’re heading to Gunnison…

Delays and closures begin today, March 6th until sometime in July 2023 for US 50 (mile marker 124-127) between Montrose and Gunnison for major road construction. More details can be found at  us50info.com .

Please try to gather information about weather forecasts and anticipated travel impacts and current road conditions prior to hitting any road.

TODAY’S AVALANCHE FORECAST

In the Sangre De Cristo District, the chances of avalanche today are moderate below, near and above the treeline.

You can identify possibly dangerous areas by looking for signs of recent drifting, such as smooth rounded pillows of snow, especially below ridgelines and in high-elevation areas that catch and hold snow, cracking in the snow surface, and recent avalanche activity. Winds will be strong enough to drift snow lower down in avalanche paths, into the near treeline elevation band, and into open meadows in below treeline areas.
