In two or three storage units in Denver, stacked in cardboard boxes were reel to reel tapes of a treasury of Folk Heroes. Standing in the concrete archives at Broadway and Evans, not far away from where Barry Fey started The Family Dog, was a Smithsonian-like Library with founder and collector, Harry Tuft looking through with Richard Arnold Beattie, the singer-songwriter and founder of Sound Century an organization that digitizes and remixes these types of things, so future generations can get “Folke’d up” as much as Richard is! Beattie is a media host, publisher and has been writing, telling, singing and playing stories and songs since 1972. Your mission is to enjoy the time machine to back where Folk Heroes roamed the earth.

Paul is a retired geologist, professionally but not personally. He’s lived in Colorado since childhood and still thrives on enjoying all things outdoors with his wife Nan, and daughter Maddy and her husband when they visit from Chicago. As a lifelong music lover, Paul is grateful for the opportunity to share Toe Tapping Tunes every other Thursday from 2-4 pm. It’ll be fun!

Mike and Sharon Corage are excited to have a chance to host “Sidetracked” on Thursday afternoons from 4 to 6. As east coast kids from New York and Jersey, they felt the call of the west a couple of lifetimes ago. Raising 3 children with a hop, skip and a jump through the Philly and Denver metro areas, they stumbled upon Westcliffe in 2019, thanks to their son Rick. As empty nesters, they fell in love first with the view and more recently with the community. When they’re not hiking, biking, fixing or creating something, their grandchildren keep us busy and amused.
With much appreciation and admiration for all the arts, they’ve enjoyed listening to the wide variety of genres offered by various college radio stations since their early years and now right here on KLZR! Artists they admire, to name a few, are Laurie Anderson, David Bromberg, The Doors, NRPS, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, CSNY, Hot Tuna, King Crimson, The Cure, The Ramones, Black Flag, REM, X, Camper Van Beethoven, Ween, The Fall, Flipper, Frank Zappa and Warren Zevon. With a steady flow of the Grateful Dead, Willie Nelson and a symphony or two in mix; music excites and soothes their souls.
“In spite of ourselves we’ll wind up sitting on a rainbow.”
Turn on / Tune in / Drop out / get “Sidetracked” with Mike and Sharon every Thursday from 4 to 6pm.

Bruce grew up in Bangor, Maine, where he was a huge music fan. He listened to a number of different genres and artists. While in the Navy, he worked as a MARS (Military Auxiliary Radio System) operator, which is the equivalent of a civilian ham operator. In doing this, he became interested in working on radios of various types. After retiring from the Navy, he returned to Colorado with his wife, and they purchased property in Westcliffe in 2009. In 2021, they moved here permanently (thanks COVID!). Catch Bruce’s Weekend Kickoff show at 4pm on Fridays and join him for Christian Crossroads on Sunday mornings at 7am.

Growing up in Texas, DJ Skippy Diggler was exposed to all things music. The Austin live music scene was full of everything from Stevie Ray Vaughan to Willie Nelson to alternative dance music. Now spending half time here in Colorado, having the opportunity to share 80’s music with the Valley is “totally awesome!” The range of music genres is enormous. Recently, Skippy has been learning acoustic guitar and loves playing for friends around the campfire. Who knows what the future brings, but he remains open to all things music and enjoying new friends and experiences in the Valley!

TC leans to the acoustic side in her taste but surprises abound. She takes particular pleasure in turning down requests.
